Dead Hand blared through the small ear buds that were securely pressed inside Bianca’s ears; she slowly wrapped the white headphones wire around her small finger as her foot tapped along with the beat of the music. Moments like that one made it possible for Bianca to pretend that the past year had never happened that it was nothing more then a terrible nightmare but deep down she knew that it had happened and no matter how hard she tried she could never completely put that behind her, her past would always come back and haunt her. Bianca shook her head trying to push the negative thoughts from her head wild curls fell to her face and her Pettit hand moved up to remove the few strands of hair that fell over her chocolaty brown eyes. As the song finished she pulled the ear buds from her ears and pulled her cell phone out, she starred at it for a few seconds, no missed calls no texts no nothing. Bianca threw the phone on the bed and let out a sigh, it was hard for her to get used to this new life, she wanted to go out and have fun again but she knew that she couldn’t at least not at the moment, she had to sit back and let things in her life return back to normal before she could go back to the way things used to be. There was only really one person that still saw her as the same girl that she was about a year ago and that was Goldsworthy, reaching for her cell phone one more time Bianca dialed Eli’s number. She bit her bottom lip as she waited for him to answer—one ring, two rigs, three and so on until his voice mail picked up. Bianca pulled the hot pink phone from her ear and pressed the red button to hag it up. She wondered why he hadn’t answered he was usually pretty good at always answering her phone calls and that was something she had gotten accustomed to so when he didn’t answer it always made her think that something was wrong. She placed her phone on her abdomen and waited for him to call her back.
After about an hour of waiting Bianca grew impatient, she climbed out of her bed and slipped her Jordan’s on her feet she grabbed her keys and walked out of her room and down to the front door. It wasn’t like Eli to not call her back even when he was busy he always answered or at least texted her. She got in her car and took the all too familiar drive to the Goldsworthy residence. She parked in the street and scanned the area, Eli’s car was in the driveway but his parent’s car was no where in sight. Her heart began to pound as she made her way out of the car. So many questions rushed through her head, what if he had an episode? She wondered as her feet moved quickly over the pavement, she finally reached the front door, her shaky hand moved up to the doorbell and she pressed it. She felt a knot in her stomach as she waited for someone to open the door.
Eli felt the entire room spin as he lifted his body weight from a nearby chair, not making any effort to turn down the music or to wonder who could possibly be knocking at his front door. He was lost, at this point, the almost empty bottle of whiskey left on the coffee table as he wobbled down the hall. He stopped a second to rest, pressing his palm against the wall and breathing deep. A laugh floated through the air, amused at his state. He had gone from lonely, to angry, to not giving a shit about anything, all his thoughts spiraling the drain and stopping completely. He felt out of control at the moment, almost shocked at his capability of making it the rest of the way down the hallway. His fingers gripped the door handle firmly before pulling it open with force. His eyes widened at the sight of Bianca, whose eyes possessed a slight, noticeable hint of worry. The heat from the alcohol warmed his skin, and as he realized who was standing in front of him, he became more aware of just how drunk he was; and just how ashamed he was that she had to see him like this. “..Bee.” He finally said, trying to regain as much composure as possible, even though deep down, he knew she would see right through his facade; she always did. “..to what do I owe this pleasure?” He asked, his words slurring slightly as he tried to speak. Clearing his throat, he stepped aside slowly to allow her entrance, his heart starting to beat as it woke back up, his mind slowly kick starting with all the feelings he had recently realized he had for his best friend, the beautiful brown eyed girl standing in front of him. Slowly, he felt all the numbness from the alcohol melt away, and his heart start to ache along with the pounding of his head. Once she had stepped inside, he shut the door and locked it, the realization of just how loud the music was washing over him. “Let me..” He fumbled, tripping over his own feet and scoffing at himself as he slowed his walk to the stereo, feeling her following behind him as he turned the volume down to a more tolerable level. He squeezed his eyes shut, taking a deep breath before turning around to meet her eyes.
Relief washed over her entire body once she saw a pair of emerald green eyes staring back at her, she was thankful that he was okay physically but she was afraid that emotionally he wasn’t going to be. Her eyes quickly moved over the boy that stood in the doorway “I was worried about you” she whispered Bianca was almost positive that she sounded like an overbearing mother and under any other circumstances or with anyone else she would have probably kicked herself but the truth was that it was Eli the one that was drunk not anybody else. Once Eli moved to the side to allow her to enter in to the house Bianca took a small step inside, she scrunched up her nose at the strong smell of alcohol in the house she turned back to face her friend. There was one thing Bianca hated and that was seeing Eli in the state that he was in at that moment; it pained her to see her friend so down that he had to turn to alcohol to release whatever pain he was feeling. Some would have called her a hypocrite since she was probably one of the people that drank and partied the most but when she drank it wasn’t to forget her problems it was more to unwind. She heard his slurred words once again just before he almost tripped over his feet as he tried to get to the stereo, Bianca was quickly by his side ready to catch him in case he was about to fall over. “go sit down” she said trying to sound a little more at ease at the whole situation “I’m sure I can find my way around here to get us a few drinks…” she paused for a moment “like water” she quickly added to make it clear to Eli that his drunken night had just come to a screeching halt. She walked in to the kitchen and pulled the fridge door open; she grabbed a coke for herself and a bottle of water for Eli. Walking back in to the living room she tried to prepare herself for whatever mood Eli would be in “here” she said handing him the bottle “so are you going to tell me what’s going on or are you going to make me guess?” She asked starring in to his emerald eyes.
